Many women have the skills to sew but cannot afford the cost of the machine and we want to support, upskill and empower them. Women have an important role in managing family affairs and the sewing machine can enable them to also become breadwinners for their families, providing life-long benefit. We would like to raise money to provide 20 sewing machines to support women in remote communities. One machine costs £120.
Many people, both young and old, suffer from hearing difficulties with little chance of a cure. At Mt Sion Inclusive Education Resource Centre in Goroka, the OIC Hearing Services Mr Don Waipe, conducts audiometry tests using a diagnostic audiometer. Wantok Support has funded 48 hearing aids which have been given to children and adults with hearing impairments. Amongst those who have been fitted with new hearing aids are 5 school students in grade 8, a young woman who can now start her nursing training and a young man who can now start his first job. As Don Waipe says, these hearing aids have put a smile on their faces and made a big difference in their life.
